I’d like to introduce our new writer, Trenton Villanueva, who will begin his SDBoltReport.com career by writing training camp scouting reports. Basically, he will focus on a handful of fringe players during camp (players who really need a strong performance) and evaluate their performance. It’s hard to do that after one practice, but deadlines are deadlines, so here is the first installment of his new series. Enjoy!

Training Camp Scouting Report: Dontrelle Inman

Dontrelle Inman was impressive in Thursday’s training camp practice and clearly has the inside track on San Diego’s No. 4 receiver position. Read More…

Now we turn our attention to defense with a scouting report on CB Richard Crawford. For what it’s worth, I had Crawford surviving the final round of cuts in my Chargers roster projections (read them here).

Training Camp Scouting Report: Richard Crawford

Richard Crawford has thrived during the first two practices of training camp. Will his improved play lead to a spot on the 53-man roster? Read More…

Training Camp Scouting Report: Brad Sorensen

Brad Sorensen has been impressive during the first week of training camp. Can he do enough to convince the Chargers to carry three quarterbacks? Read More…

I had Sorensen making the final 53-man roster in my roster projections, for reasons explained here, so it’s good to see him off to a strong start. I don’t know if he can ever develop into a franchise quarterback, but with another season of development he should be ready to take over the No. 2 position in 2016 (when Kellen Clemens will be a free agent).

I’ve liked Brad, but he’s bounced A bit, he didn’t get enough work last PS to make any impression, Good or Bad, He needs some reps

With the ones, I still think just by Two Years ago, with enough reps, he could be a Decent Two, that is if Clemmons does go,

But the Coaching Staff, if possible, should let these two Duke it out in TC/PS, for the B/U role this year

Of course, the Chargers are a four-win team without Philip Rivers (at best), so arranging the quarterbacks behind him is akin to arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

I dunno know, Mike, in years  past, I’d agree, but TT is Assembling an Offense that a Competent QB should be able to Handle

Think of it like this: If the Chargers lose Rivers, which teams in the AFC are they still capable of beating? The Browns, Titans, Jaguars and Raiders? Either way, let’s hope that scenario doesn’t come to fruition!

Training Camp Scouting Report: Brock Hekking

Brock Hekking’s impressive strength, non-stop motor and flowing mullet have drawn plenty of attention during the first week of training camp. Read More…

This guy has practice squad written all over him. However, after interviewing his college defensive coordinator and Hekking himself earlier this offseason, it’s fair to say the SDBR team is pulling for No. 59.

I guess I should say Another QB would need a Minute in the System, But we are Finally getting Weapons and building A line to wear the Onus wont be Solely on the Talents of our QB to Make or Break the Offense to where Rivers has been SO much THE most Important part of this offense for So Long now

Training Camp Scouting Report: Jeremiah Sirles

Jeremiah Sirles, after being forced into the rotation late last season, is out to prove he is more than just an emergency fill-in. Read More...

Sirles reminds me a little bit of Steve Schilling, San Diego’s sixth-round pick back in 2011. Although Schilling never carved out a role in San Diego, he is still in the league as a versatile backup for the Seahawks. With a little development, I can see Sirles playing a similar role for the Chargers going forward.

Training Camp Scouting Report: Chi Chi Ariguzo

After a slow start to training camp, ILB Chi Chi Ariguzo has grown by leaps and bounds and is now challenging for a spot on the Week 1 roster. Read More…

I’ve been saying for a while now that an undrafted rookie inside linebacker is going to make the final 53-man roster. However, I had been touting Nick Dzubnar as the most likely candidate to get the job done. According to this report from our Trenton Villanueva, Ariguzo has overtaken Dzubnar and fellow UDFA Curtis Grant and now has a real shot to push for a roster spot.
